ATX Gossip loves bringing you previews of the films and other projects making their premieres at SXSW. This year, we’re kicking things off with Sidemen: Long Road To Glory.

The film takes us into the worlds of piano player Pinetop Perkins, drummer Willie “Big Eyes” Smith and guitarist Hubert Sumlin, all Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf sidemen.

Here’s a sneak:

Writer/Director/Producer Scott Rosenbaum has always had a deep love of music but once he discovered the influence of blues, he gained an even greater appreciate for both the music and its rich history.

We asked what attracted him to this story in particular.

Having had the opportunity to cast Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin and Willie “Big Eyes” Smith in my first film The Perfect Age of Rock ‘N’ Roll gave me the chance to meet these blues legends in person. I knew then that I wanted to document their legacies and the impact they had on all rock music and popular music in general.

Rosenbaum has never attended SXSW nor visited Austin but he knows this is the right place and the right time for a premiere.

Austin played such a big role in the personal and professional lives of Pinetop, Willie and Hubert. It’s the perfect city to debut the film.

We wanted to make sure the New Yorker is ready for the ATX, so we sent along a few of our Totally Texan questions to put him in a Lone Star state of mind.
