ATX Gossip loves bringing you previews of the films and other projects making their premieres at SXSW. Up next is Silicon Cowboys.

When you think of computers, you most certainly think of the story of Apple, but that’s not the only computer system that shaped the landscape of our technological world. The story of Compaq computers plays out like a classic David vs. Goliath tale and, as Director Jason Cohen says, affects us all, but most of us just don’t know it.

Audiences will be blown away by how a few critical decisions changed the landscape of our world.

Cohen remembers his first computer and all the memories that went along with that part of his upbringing, which came rushing back while making this film. But that’s not what attracted him to this project.

I am always looking for that story that can educate and enlighten but ultimately entertain an audience. If I am lucky enough to find a story that pulls an audience in, leaves them guessing at every turn and delivers a narrative that blurs the line between reality and fiction, then I know I have a winner.

While Cohen has never attended SXSW, he has been to Austin a few times. As he frantically preps for the fest with David Bowie’s Under Pressure pulsing in his head, he knows what to look forward to in the ATX: great movies, great music and Texas BBQ!

We sent along a few of our Totally Texan questions to assist in his transition to a Lone Star State.

What is your favorite movie and/or TV show shot in Texas?

Lone Star by John Sayles. Always loved the Frances McDormand “Dallas Cowboy fanatic” cameo.

Who is your favorite Texas musician?

Stevie Ray Vaughn and Old 97’s.

What actor would you call “totally Texan?”

Patrick Swayze… Roadhouse.

What Texas food are you most looking forward to eating in Austin?

Salt Lick BBQ, Guero’s tacos and some queso!

What advice do you have for Austinites looking to get into the biz?

Learn everything you can about all aspects of filmmaking instead of focusing on one. And get out there and get experience doing it any way you can.

You can see Jason Cohen’s Silicon Cowboys at the following times during the fest:
