Christmas Movies

Christmas time is the best time to catch a movie. And so many beautiful and inspiring movies are hitting the big screen.

Here’s a list of each movie we’ve seen and what we think you should see as well, ending with our favorite film of the holiday season.

But first, here’s what we haven’t yet seen but plan to: A Monster Calls, Hacksaw Ridge, Nocturnal Animals, Manchester by the Sea, Fences.

And these are the films we are not planning to see: Why Him?, Collateral Beauty, Allied, Denial, Miss Sloane, anything animated.

Fantastic BeastsFantastic Beasts movie

Sure, it’s been out for a while. And it doesn’t hold a candle (or a lighted wand) to the Harry Potter series. But it’s still nice to see the Wizarding World alive and well.

ArrivalArrival movie

Incredibly acted, superbly written and fiercely entertaining, Arrival is worth a watch. Read more about our thoughts on the film here.

La La Land

La La Land movie

I wanted to like this more than I actually did. I totally appreciate the concept, but it should have been better. Starts strong, drags in the middle, wraps up nicely. However, I’m the only person I know who’s seen it and didn’t love it. So, there’s that.

Jackie

Jackie movieHeartbreaking, breathtaking and absolutely stunning. Jackie is portrayed beautifully by Natalie Portman. You see Jackie. You hear Jackie. You feel Jackie. It’s the best historical film in years. Whether a lover of history or simply a lover of film, it’s a moving memorable experience.

Passengers movie

Passengers

Exquisite effects. Really. It looks amazing. And it’s highly entertaining to boot.

Rogue One

I’ll get on board with all of the fanboys. It’s the best Star Wars film since Empire Strikes Back.

And if you want to stay in and watch something, check out the first installment of Austin’s own Marshall Allman’s short film series.
