Waco TV series

The premiere of the long awaited Waco TV series is happening this week on the all new Paramount Network, formerly Spike TV.

25 years after the Branch Davidian drama unfolded in Waco, this six-part TV series re-examines the FBI siege of the religious sect compound.

Austinite and former Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch stars as David Koresh while Michael Shannon plays the FBI negotiator. Melissa Benoist also stars as Koresh’s legal wife, though he reportedly fathered children with multiple wives, including underage girls.

The series, told from several perspectives of those most intimately involved in both sides of the conflict, chronicles the 1993 standoff between the FBI, ATF and David Koresh’s spiritual sect, that left 82 members of the Branch Davidians and four federal agents dead.

We spoke to Kitsch on the red carpet for a screening of American Assassins in Austin in August. When we asked him to tell us about Waco, he called it the best work of his career. Here’s what else he had to say.

BTW, Kitsch finally cracked and joined Instagram this week. You can follow him at @taylorkitsch.

And you can watch the Waco TV series when it premieres at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24.
