“A surreal comedy about two self proclaimed loners who, after bonding over their mutual disinterest in relationships, decide to go away together on a “friend” trip where things get really, really weird.”
“This project rose out of necessity. We’ve been wanting to make a feature for awhile. As two writers who are also a composer and an actor. we felt the only way to truly showcase our voice was to create something of our own.”
While in Austin, they had grand plans to eat all the barbecue, tacos and queso they could get their hands on. But those aren’t the only things they love about Texas.
Here’s how they answered our Totally Texan questions.
What is your favorite movie and/or TV show shot in Texas?
CAG: Rushmore.
RFS: Pee Wee’s Big Adventure (“Remember the Alamo”).
Who is your favorite Texas musician?
CAG: At the Drive In and Roy Orbison.
RFS: Janis Joplin. Hands down. Oh, and Beyoncé.
What actor would you call “totally Texan?”
CAG: That’s a tough one cause your Texan actors range from Matthew McConaughey to Owen Wilson.
RFS: I also just learned Carol Burnett was born in San Antonio, TX, and she’s pretty much the best. A lady who is a funny lady is the only kind of lady.
What Texas food are you most looking forward to eating in Austin?
RFS: We have heard a great deal about Torchy’s Tacos! Excited to see what it’s all about.
CAG: And Franklin BBQ.
What advice do you have for Austinites looking to get into the biz?
Be you. Embrace you. Your voice is unique, only you have it. Share that thing that makes you, you. Make the thing you want to make, not the thing you think people want to see. And keep going.
No word on whether they were able to enjoy Torchy’s and Franklin’s while in the ATX, but we’re sure hoping they did.
What we do know is that the Austin Chronicle calls The Relationtrip “weird in all the right places.” And that sounds pretty satisfying.
