Good Omens

With an all-star cast and a great premise, it’s no surprise that the Good Omens installation made our list of best installations of SXSW 2019.

The six-part Amazon Prime original series staring David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm , Benedict Cumberbatch, Nick Offerman and Frances McDormand streams today.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, let me tell you about the Good Omens activation Amazon put together for SXSW this year!

Walking the streets of downtown Austin, you’re already inclined to see some usual or, dare I say weird, things. But seeing angels, demons and aliens roaming the street is just weird enough for people stop and take notice. Actors dressed as all three lured you into the gates of the Garden of Eden, which is ironically enough usually an empty lot or even sometimes a food truck yard.

The lot was transformed into a haven with lush greenery, a clock counting down the end of the world, a tree that pours beer and a hellhound puppy pen (though there’s absolutely nothing hellish about puppies IMHO). The real reason this installation stood out, aside from the plenty of instagrammable moments, was the consistency of the theme which made you excited about the show and curious to see how they can make the end of the world as lighthearted as they made the garden. Mission accomplished!

Now more about the show itself. Good Omens is based on the 1990 award winning novel titled “Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch” by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, whom you may know from American Gods. The show is a co-production between Amazon Studios, BBC Studios, Blank Corporation and Narrativia. It’s the first Amazon Studios TV series to receive a big red carpet premiere in London’s Leicester Square which is usually reserved for blockbuster movies.

In the series, David Tennant plays Crowley the demon while Michael Sheen portrays the angel Aziraphale. The unlikely pair have to work together to locate an 11-year-old boy who just happens to be the Antichrist. Can’s wait to see how that’s going to play out!

Luckily, I won’t have to wait. And neither will you!

The series is available now on Amazon Prime.

Good Omens reviews have already been rolling in with a 9.2/10 on IMDb and 79% Rotten Tomatoes.
