Signature Move

The SXSW film Signature Move is described as a comedic and heartfelt look at modern families and the complexities of love in its many forms. More intriguing, perhaps, is the fact that the film involves lucha style wrestling.

But, before we get to that, here’s how director Jennifer Reeder describes Signature Move in one sentence:

“Lumpy little lesbian love story and your new most favorite film.”

So, maybe that still doesn’t tell you enough about the story either.

Let’s see how co-writer/ producer/ actor Fawzia Mirza describes it:

“A Pakistani, Muslim lesbian, dealing with her recently moved-in, TV-obsessed mom, has to deal with two secrets: her new relationship with a lady & her new found lucha style wrestling hobby.”

That works! Plus, it mentions the lucha aspect of the story line that we are so uber excited about.

And we aren’t the only ones excited about it. When ATXgossip asked Mirza what she is most looking forward to at SXSW, she told us that she and her co-writer plan on walking around in lucha libre masks. So, keep your eyes peeled for that. We most definitely will!

She’s also excited for their team, cast and friends to share in the world premiere of her narrative feature. “This is a dream come true,” she concluded.

While Reeder is surely looking forward to that as well, she can’t wait to have a totally Texan experience. “The rodeos, the ranches, the wranglers… a saloon on every corner… a spur on every shoe,” is what she said she is most looking forward to. Indeed, some around her have already considered looking for a ranch for sale texas has to offer, whilst others have held back for now until they get to explore the great state.

Though both ladies are new to the SXSW scene, they had no trouble answering our Austin-centric questions.
