SDCC 2016 Preview – Top 10 most anticipated events

San Diego Comic Con
It’s that time of year again; time for San Diego Comic Con, otherwise known as the weekend I suffer extreme FOMO while glued to various Instagram and Twitter feeds searching for the latest pictures and videos. It’s also the weekend I find myself trolling comic book stores so I can pretend I’m still connected to the SDCC 2016 scene somehow.

In reality, the way I am most connected is through my pal David who attends each year and sends back pictures and commentary. TGFD.

Currently, David is aboard the USS Enterprise geeking out over the cast of Star Trek Beyond and getting ready for a sneak of the new film.

Here are a couple of hot off the press SDCC 2016 pics.

Chris Pine at the Star Trek Beyond SDCC premiere.
Idris Elba at the Star Trek Beyond SDCC premiere.

Speaking of Star Trek, the 50th anniversary of the series is just one of our top pics for this year’s convention.

Here are the other 10 most anticipated events at SDCC 2016.

10 – Riverdale

SDCC 2016

I’ve been waiting for this for over 30 years. FINALLY, someone is tackling the world of Archie Andrews. Well, someone other than whoever made that steaming pile of crap called Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again that aired on TV in the early 90s.

The CW will screen the pilot followed by a panel with producers and cast, including Cole Sprouse as… Jughead?

There’s also an Archie Comics Forever panel where news and announcements will be made about all your favorite Riverdale characters.

9 – Rocky Horror Picture Show

FOX is ready to do the time warp again, this time live in primetime. Capitalizing on the success of Grease Live, this star-studded reimagining of the cult classic stars Victoria Justice, Christina Milian and Lavern Cox. Cast and producers will give the SDCC 2016 audience an exclusive first look at the two-hour event airing this Fall.

8 – Entertainment Weekly: Women Who Kick Ass

In lieu of including the panels for each of the shows these women appear on, I’m including this panel featuring a few of my favorite bad ass ladies: Morean Baccarin (Gotham), Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Lucy Lawless (Ash vs. Evil Dead), Ming-Na Wen (Agents of Shield) and Tatiana Mislay (Orphan Black).

However, were I there, I would totally try to attend the Orphan Black, GOT and Supergirl panels as well. I’d also be drawn to the Ash vs. Evil Dead, because, while I haven’t even seen season one, season two features Lee Majors.

LEE, freaking, MAJORS.

He’s the Six Million Dollar Man! And The Fall Guy! And he used to be Mr. Farrah Fawcett.

That dude is a stud.

7 – Marvel’s Luke Cage

Did someone say stud?

I already know and like Luke Cage from Netflix’s Jessica Jones, so, why not get a sneak of this companion series before it premieres September 30?

Also, Mike Colter is hot.

6 – Alien‘s 30th Anniversary

Feel old? Welcome to my world.

James Cameron joins cast members Sigourney Weaver, Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Michael Biehn and Paul Reiser (I do NOT remember him from this) for a look back at the iconic sci-fi classic.

5 – Prison Break

Yep, Prison Break is back. So is 24 (but it’s Kiefer free and, therefor, did not make the list).

The nine-episode FOX series continues the original story with actors Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies and Robert Knepper, who will all be in attendance for the panel.

4 – Everything Walking Dead

No, the panel is not called that. I’m just saying I look forward to hearing anything and everything about the upcoming seasons of TWD and FTWD.

Like the LA Times said, if October seems too far away to find out who Negan killed, maybe the cast and crew will let something slip that can be deconstructed repeatedly in the intervening months.

3 – The Marvel Panel

A discussion of Marvel’s film slate which should include a look at Doctor Strange and will definitely include something for Guardians of the Galaxy 2. According to James Gunn, Chris Pratt and much of the cast will attend.

2 – The Warner Brothers Panel

Headed up by master of ceremonies Conan O’Brien, WB will showcase several of the most-anticipated upcoming features with cast in attendance: Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Connie Nielsen), Suicide Squad (Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jay Hernandez, Scott Eastwood and more), The LEGO Batman Movie (Will Arnett), King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (Charlie Hunnam), Kong: Skull Island (Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John Goodman and more), and, my most anticipated, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Eddie Redmayne, Colin Farrell and more).

1 – Conan

We can all feel like we’re in the middle of the madness by watching Conan Con (OK, not quite). Of course, we don’t get to take home the special edition Funko Pops like David does. Damn it, Janet.

You know what I’m NOT looking forward to seeing ANYTHING about?

It!

Clowns are a no go up in here. In fact, I had to skip AHS Season 4 because of that horrifying Twisty character. But riddle me this… Why exactly do I have this Funko Pop?
