"The Tree of Life," Terrance Malick's most recent arty fartsy film shot here in Austin received an Academy Award Best Picture nod as well as a Best Director nod for TM. Star Brad Pitt also received a nomination, though not for TOL. He and co-star Jonah Hill were both recognized for "Moneyball."

Malick is currently making the oh so mysterious "Lawless" with Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

ATX Powers On a One-of-a-Kind TV Fest !

The first festival devoted to TV will take place in Austin this summer! And while I love me some film, ya'll know my heart is in TV.

The ATX Fest, focusing on television's past and future, will kick off June 1st and function like a traditional film festival with premieres of new series(Dallas or Good Christian Belles perhaps?), current hits, cult favorites and spotlights of unaired pilots, series that were canceled before their time(like Texas themed Lonestar and the Austin shot My Generation, you mean? ) and classic shows. ATX will also offer access to the industry's leading professionals with cast and creator Q&As and panels. Already scheduled to screen are the canceled CW show Life Unexpected, Austin City Limits, Husbands, and Bandwagon: The Series. Board member Arielle Kebbel is also slated to attend, who I've known since her days with the Lisa Maile Modeling and Acting school in Orlando, FL. You may know her, however, from 90210, Gilmore Girls, The Vampire Diaries and big screen ventures like Aquamarine.

Austin remains Off-Centered!

The Alamo Drafthouse and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery have announced details for the 5th annual "Off-Centered Film Fest." The three-day fest for film and beer lovers alike takes place April 19-21. Traditionally, the theme for the short film competition has been "off-centered," but this year the panel of Alamo and Dogfish Head judges have decided to mix things up with the theme "Western, Off-Centered."

At last year's festival, I experienced my first viewings of "Strange Brew" and "Wet Hot American Summer," which Michael Cera also attended.

Awesome Austinite Sandra Bullock Softly Soars in "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close."

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close opens today starring my favorite Austinite Sandy Bullock. While I was not able to attend the preview screening, two friends filled in and their reviews are stellar. See below.

To be honest, I really wasn't super excited to see this movie, for a couple reasons. For one, anything about the World Trade Center makes me cry, and secondly, I felt like it was possibly going to be one of those movies where they threw together a couple big names just for the sake of doing it. And further, the previews really didn't do much to make me want to see it either. But it turns out, the previews actually just kept the story a secret, which I tend to appreciate.

Once it started, from almost the very beginning, I was pretty captivated...particularly by Oskar, played by Thomas Horn. The kid, whom I was a little apprehensive about upon seeing the previews, was actually pretty brilliant. He played his role such that he was quirky and odd without being annoying...he was charming and funny and incredibly believable.

I loved the way the story was told in that multiple story lines occurred simultaneously, and how pieces of the "worst day" were revealed throughout the movie without making the movie be about that infamous day. I was really pretty captivated by the curiosity of where Oskar's journey would take him, and all the people he met along the way kept it pretty interesting as well.

I guess overall, I'd say the thing that I most enjoyed about it is how little what happened along the way aligned with what I expected. Sandra Bullock was really great in the role, and I absolutely believed in their family dynamic. Some of the scenes with her were the most memorable and touching of the entire film. Max von Sydow and his interactions with Oskar were definitely some of my favorite parts of the movie...It wouldn't have been the same without that.

There are a lot of other things I can tell you about it, but I don't want to give anything away. I will just close by saying that it isn't a movie about 9/11...In fact, Oskar could have lost his father in some other tragic and unexpected way, and I don't think it would have changed the story much. So, though I really expected otherwise, I actually really, really liked this movie.

Everyone knows the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001. How families were broken over loved ones lost, torn apart by the wreckage of the Twin Towers. Movies have been made, swallowed in the tears of those losing someone they loved. This is not that kind of movie. If anything, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, which is adapted by bestseller Jonathan Safran Foer, gives hope to the grief stricken.

The movie focuses on the journey a socially inept yet highly quizzical young boy named Oskar takes after learning his father was killed in the attack on the World Trade Center. Played by Thomas Horn, Oskar has you captivated the moment he begins speaking. Horn gives off a certain tough grittiness while searching for a connection to his father and drifting from his mother. His determination to find yet another clue or answer has you yearning he will. When he breaks down, you break down in defeat as well—but with every outburst you catch a glimpse of his true vulnerability, the vulnerability of a child yearning for his father. It is hard to believe Oskar to be such a young boy, as his character covers such depth—from loss to anger to fear—and yet he nails it straight on the head.

Sandra Bullock, who plays Oskar’s mother, has a smaller role and yet delivers with impact. As most would assume, from seeing every other tear jerker that results in a parent lost and a child looking for answers, she is at first portrayed as the weak absentee parent overstricken with grief. But, with a twist of the plot, Bullock proves to be a mother concerned for her son, looking to get closer to him and protecting him every step of the way. You can feel her maternal instinct. Her ability as a mother to take in the bad in order to allow Oskar to find the answers for himself and realize he still has a parent who loves him.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is not a sob story over things we cannot change, but an example of the strength we require to continue on our journeys without those we have lost.

One Wild Weekend in the ATX

Sorry for the delay on this post, but I had some sleeping to do after the wildness that was this weekend.

Friday night, I kicked things off with my last live Austin show for a few weeks - Bob Schneider and the Scabs at Antone's. Yes, I'm still afraid of him. But here is the real head scratcher of the day. Bob Schneider dated SB. His music has been featured in movies. His 40 Dogs video is pretty highly produced. How come this guy isn't famous? Is it because he's not interested in the big time...or is he not really that good. You decide. And then tell me what you think.

Prior to showtime, I hit Haven's WinterGlo Fashion Show for a bit.

Featuring sportswear from St. Bernards on 4th Street,

and an interesting mix of models...

the event was hosted by my pal Danny D-Train Trevino, with beats from DJ Tru.

Saturday spun out of control with my Hollywood A-farewell bash at Hangar and Lucky Lounges.

The closest things to celebs(other than myself, of course) were FOX 7's Scott Fisher and former CW Austin Star Mandy Dugan. Don't y'all think she should start writing for ATX Gossip???

Sunday was capped off with my annual Golden Globes gathering.

As posted at the time nominees were announced, the Texas ties were slim this year. However, "The Descendants," which premiered at the Austin Film Fest and co-stars Austinite Nick Krause, took home Best Drama. Attendees I saw in the audience and/or in red carpet pics included Piper Perabo(Dallas native), Missi Pyle(Houston native) and Owen Wilson(Dallas native).

Judging from my weekend shenanigans, I know a bit about that.

Last night, I received the star treatment at Viva Day Spa.

What a sweet boutique!

The decor is simple yet swanky while the staff and their skills are superb.

I took along my pal Dehron and even he and his masculinity were impressed.

To quote him:

Speaking as someone who has never been to a day spa before, I think it is easy to assume that such a place is going to be kind of... stuffy or pretentious. On the contrary, I thought the staff was incredibly sweet and very accommodating. And the fact that they have products for guys is very cool.

So, no matter what your (metro)sexuality, you are sure to be treated with high regard at Viva Day Spa.

The dude who played Kyle Reese & Corporal Hicks is coming to the Alamo this Saturday.

I'll admit, those character names mean nothing to me.
I will also admit that I have never seen "Aliens" (GASP!) nor "Terminator." DOUBLE GASP!

Sometimes Austinite Drew Barrymore Engaged!

The new year sure brought a lot of new engagements.

My favorite of those bitten by the love bug is Drew Barrymore.

The star's rep shared news of her engagement to Will Kopelman with PEOPLE Magazine, along with this photo of the pair which artfully shows off her nearly four carat sparkler.

Barrymore, 36, has been linked to the 33-year-old New York City native since February of 2011. That's just one month after she was spotted partying with the then newly single Scarlett Johansson here in the ATX.

Kopelman is a Boston University alum and the son of former Chanel CEO Arie Kopelman.

According to PEOPLE, the outdoorsman likes to shoot guns. Sounds like a man after us Texans' hearts! He doesn't take aim out on the range though. He prefers the shooting range.

Barrymore has been married twice before. She was first briefly wed to Jeremy Thomas in 1994. She married Canadian comic Tom Green in 1999. The child star has also been linked to The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, director Spike Jonze, Texan Luke WIlson and Justin Long(who has been rumored to own a home in Travis Heights).

Celebrity Apprentice Cast Revealed!

The season 12 cast of NBC's "The Apprentice(celeb edition)" has been announced and, sadly, there are no Texans on board.

There are, however, a lot of lone stars(as in, I give them about one star on the popularity chart).

Here's what you get:

Clay Aiken - pop star and second-season runner-up on "American Idol."

Teresa Gludice - veteran of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey."

Dee Snider - Twisted Sister frontman and occasional reality TV star. He's also the first celeb I ever saw in LA.

Tia Carrere - musician, actress (most known for "Wayne's World") and Dancing with the Stars alum. I once served as her guide when she attended the opening of the "WW" themed area at Carowinds theme park.

I don't know why I always happen to be in the midst of celebrity.

I just am.

On my way home from work on Friday I was stopped at the light in front of Guero's and who happens to cross directly in front of my car? Dennis Quaid, with son Jack and wife Kimberly in tow. The threesome was bundled up with Dennis wearing a black knit cap and smoking a skinny cigar.

He really is a cool looking dude.

Back in November, Dennis and Kimberly sued the couple who sold them their Lake Austin digs. It was reported the couple were renting a place while legal issues were resolved. The couple(originally from Houston and Austin respectively) moved to the ATX to be closer to the actor's mother who is in a retirement home nearby.

It's not known how much the Quaids paid for the two pieces of property that make up the estate, but the main house was last listed for $12 million. It's a six bedroom, eight bath house and has a pool, outdoor fireplace, wine room and secured vault. The second piece of property includes a boathouse and helipad.

On Christmas day, Austin regular and UT grad Matthew McConaughey asked his baby mama Camila Alves to marry him - after five years of dating and two tots!

The actor tweeted the happy news, attaching this picture.

For the past two years, MM has celebrated the holiday in Sun City with his mom(at least that's what I remember seeing on Kay Mac's website - though it seems to have gone missing).
It appears they stayed home in the Golden State this year.

Congrats to the gorgeous couple.

In other engagement news, "Ordinary People" soul singer John Legend and supermodel Chrissy Teigen "got engaged over the holidays while vacationing in the Maldives," Legend's rep told US Weekly. The two have made several appearances at Andy Roddick sponsored events here in Austin.

Golden Globe Nom Texas Ties

Sadly, there aren't many ties to Texas this year.

Best Motion Picture, Drama nominee "The Descendants" premiered at the Austin Film Festival, sans an appearance by Georgie. The actor is also up for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for the film(as well as a couple for "The Ides of March"). "The Descendants" co-stars austinite Nick Krause who attended the AFF premiere(see pics HERE) as well as Shailene Woodley who did press interviews in the ATX. She is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture category. Alex Payne is also nominated for Director and Screenplay. That's right. I call him Alex. I also call Sandra Bullock "Sandy" and Matthew McConaughey "Matty."

Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy nominee "Midnight in Paris" stars Texan Owen Wilson, who's nominated for Best Actor for the film.

Tilda Swinton is nominated for "We Need to Talk about Kevin" which screened at the Austin Film Fest.

Kristen Wiig is up for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for "Bridesmaids" which she screened "in progress" at SXSW. This is the second appearance Kristen has made at South By. She was here for "Macgruber" the previous year(see pics HERE).

As for TV, "American Horror Story" is nominated for its premiere season. Connie Britton, who spent a considerable amount of time in the city filming "Friday Night Lights," stars in the haunting FX series.

While Thomas Jane's AFF appearance was for a script reading of "The Nice Guys" and not the TV series "Hung," we still congratulate him for making the superiour(spelled the Oxford way) decision to visit our capitol city and garner a nod for Best Actor in a TV series, Comedy.

Khloe and Lamar Do Dallas!

Texans, take cover! The Kardashian circus is coming to town. Well, to Dallas, that is.

Lamar Odom was traded to the Dallas Mavericks over the weekend and US Weekly reports that Khloe Kardashian is already planning her move to the Big D.

Initially Odom was set to be traded to the New Orleans Hornets. Yeah, I'd nix that trade too since that team actually belongs in Charlotte. I'm just sayin'. Though I love seeing the hip hop scene keep the team alive with old school caps and such. I digress...

Khloe tweeted about the trade this morning posting, "Missing him already. As soon as I pack our house up, I'll be there." She also replied to a fan regarding the move saying, "I'm excited [about the move]. Heard only great things!"

I have to wonder if Texans are as excited about the move as she is. OH, WAIT. This is self absorbed pretentious Dallas we're talking about. Of course they are.

According to TMZ, Lamar's adjustment to playing for the Mavs and Khloe's adjustment to being so far away from her fam will be filmed for both "Khloe and Lamar" and "Keeping Up With The Kardashians."

Duh.

Bobby Bones and Andy Roddick serve up sports radio show!

Austin's 96.7 KISS FM radio DJ and host of his self named morning radio show Bobby Bones(he's kind of a big deal) and tennis champ Andy Roddick will co-host a sports radio show on FOX Sports Radio.

The Saturday afternoon program will launch January 7, 2012, and feature a mix of sports, pop culture and entertainment, plus interviews with top athletes and other celebrity guests. Originating from Austin, the program will air from Noon - 3pm CT/10 am - 1 pm PT across the network in top markets including LA, Houston, Miami and Phoenix.

I hope the show is as good as this pic I snapped a couple years back at Molotov on West 6th St.

She's a Texas native and my favorite American Idol, but I still have to ask, "What is the deal with Kelly Clarkson's booty bondage?"

I don't care if she's got a little meat on her. I mean, I got more than a little meat on me. And I'm familiar with the phrase, if you've got it flaunt it. But, c'mon, Kell! Don't you at least want to wear something that flatters your figure rather than something that screams, "I'm sporting three pairs of Spanks and a dress two sizes too small for my ass!"

Take, for example, her recent appearances on "The X Factor" and the "American Music Awards." You telling me that's the best look for her? She's a great looking girl and I got no probs with a curvy chic. But she can do better than a bandage and I think it may be time to look into joining Big Booty Anonymous.

"The Descendants" opens with an Austinite!

"The Descendants" (which opened in select cities last weekend) opens nationwide TODAY.

The film screened in Austin last month at the Austin Film Fest with star and Austinite Nick Krause in attendance. The 19-year-old portrays Sid, a goofy beach bum pan of George Clooney's on screen daughter.

Talk about a lucky kid.

His first major role has him sharing the screen with George Clooney and Hawaii in a film getting major Oscar buzz.

Not a bad gig. Not bad at all.

Speaking of not bad, I really dug the film.

This was the first time I've ever been able to watch Clooney and not just see Clooney.

Not sure if that has more to do with his acting ability or Alexander Payne's direction.

Either way, "The Descendants" did not have me descending from the film fest disappointed.

I almost feel guilty writing about this.

Almost.

What I feel more guilty about is taking so long to tell you about it.

I blame my moustache obsession and the planning of my stache bash which happened last Friday(see how Burt Reynolds was involved HERE).

Now that the bash has past, I'm taking a moment to FINALLY fill you in on the not hot mess that is Edward Furlong working the Comic Con circuit.

It's no secret that the actor has had his share of trouble with drugs and the law.

And it looks like any break he did take has been officially TERMINATED.

At Austin Comic Con earlier this month the star was literally making an ass of himself.

When a pal of mine from theyayornay.com stopped at his booth for a chat, he had to lift his head off the table and perch himself up precariously just to hear what she had to say. She told him she had just seen "Below Zero," which premiered at the Austin Film Fest, and he showed such little recognition, she had to consider if she'd actually made a mistake regarding his involvement with the film.

When Hayden Panettiere appeared at Austin Comic Con, she was dressed in an adorably fashionable ensemble which entailed a fur lined brown leather bomber jacket, tall tan boots and a variety of accessories including a gold band on her engagement finger. Am I the only one who finds this strange? I never wear any kind of ring on that finger except one that is obviously not a relationship symbol, like, for example, a Lonestar beer cap. And if I was famous, I surely wouldn't wear anything that caused people to ask why I would be wearing a band on that finger. BTW, this big mouthed gossip blogger DID ask Hayden about it and she ignored me. Now, see. If she didn't go wearing a gold band on her left hand ring finger, I wouldn't have to be asking about it.

Anyway, the celeb tartlet discussed a variety of things in her Q&A like being typecast as a cheerleader(she will NOT be participating in "Bring it On #9" or whatever number they are on in that series), working pretty much continuously since the age of four and how she avoided the Lindsay Lohan child star syndrome.

Regardless of her ignoring my intrusive relationship inquiry(not that she should be offended since she spoke about having sex with her 6'6" beau on "Ellen" earlier this year), I found her to be very mature and intelligent...and a heckuva lot like Sheryl Yoast.

Last year, Xander (aka Nicholas Brendon) and Glory (aka Clare Kramer) attended.

This year, Cordy, Spike, Dru and Harmony were there.

Oh, and Clem was there too(though I skipped snapping pics of him this year).

I missed the Q&A with Charisma Carpenter and Mercedes McNab but, luckily, I was able to catch the one with James Marsters and Juliet Landau.

He's no David Boreanaz(who I met at Austin Film Fest) but, I must say, he's pretty darn charming.

And, in case you were wondering, he settled all arguments by saying Buffy ended up with Angel.

Don't Mess with Hoover!

If you don't know anything about J. Edgar Hoover or the creation of the FBI - or even if you do - you should definitely see "J. Edgar," opening today. The movie serves up a 50 year history lesson packaged in a fashion average Americans can digest, I hope. Dicaprio's transformation is remarkable and as someone who hasn't been a huge fan of his in the past, I have to admit that I am now on the Leo line. He will definitely garner an Oscar nod, as will director Clint Eastwood. Some of the co-stars aren't so shabby either(the dude who plays Nixon not included).

Here's a list of the many familiar faces you will see, including a fun fact and their connection to Texas when applicable.

Naomi Watts and Judi Dench co-star. I hope you know who they are and need no explanation.
Ed Westwick stars on "Gossip Girl" and is mates and co-stars with Texan Chace Crawford.
Katilyn Dever who plays Palmer's daughter attended children's acting classes at Dallas Young Actors Studio.

Jordan Bridges is the son of Beau and nephew of Jeff. He was also on "Dawson's Creek" back in the day.

Jessica Hecht played Ross' ex-wife's new wife Susan on "Friends."

Armie Hammer, who played the twins in "The Social Network," will star in "The Lone Ranger" which was originally rumored to be shooting in Texas. Sadly, it is not.

Michale Rady was in "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and the short lived remake of "Melrose Place."

Ken Howard guest starred on the original "Melrose Place."

Geoff Stults has been in a myriad of things but I know him best as Stacy Keibler's ex who I once drank next to at a bar in Atlanta.

Jeffrey Donovan, who I did not enjoy as RFK, stars on "Burn Notice," which my friend Justin Smith appeared on last night. Go J!
Dermot Mulroney has been in many things but is probably best known for "My Best Friend's Wedding" with Cam and Julia.
Josh Lucas, who plays Charles Lindbergh, was hottie patottie Jake in "Sweet Home Alabama."
Denis O'Hare was the guts in a candy jar loving Russell Edgington on "True Blood."
Lea Thompson played the Calvin Klein loving Lorraine in the "Back to the Future" franchise, among many other things.
Amanda Schull was cuckoo on "One Tree Hill."
Stephen Root was Milton in the Austin shot "Office Space," as well as voicing many characters on Mike Judge's "King of the Hill."
And finally, let's not forget that one of Leo's first films, "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," was shot here in Austin.

Rob Lowe in Austin TODAY!

Rob Lowe will be at ACL Live at the Moody Theater today to speak at a fundraiser for Austin Recovery, the largest and most affordable drug and alcohol treatment center in Texas.

Sober for two decades now, Lowe will speak about the difference sobriety has made on his family and his life. He will also sign copies of his book “Stories I Only Tell My Friends” for event sponsors and key donors.

There is no meet and greet with the public and I hear he is not doing any local media.

Unrelated to this appearance, my favorite Rob Lowe film is "St. Elmo's Fire."

There were some mighty strong haters posting tweets, facebook comments, blogs and even texts regarding the Ryan Gosling sightings this past weekend. Before I post my rebutal, I mean remarks, let me present the massive amount of pics I took of the A-list star:

Count 'em. Four pictures. Three days of sightings and I took FOUR pictures.

That's it. So calm the fuck down.

Unlike many in this town who are not self proclaimed celeb stalkers - and who most likely ACT like they don't care about celebs - I know when to leave people alone.

Granted, he seemed quite willing to chat and snap pics with fans, but it was obvious that he was there to work. And I have never been one to jump all up in a celeb's face when they are A. working, B. dining or C. just trying to kick back and relax with their friends or family.

I am not the one "ruining Austin" nor am I "turning Austin into LA."

I'm just a fan who likes to see celebs in person and share those stories with others.

And if it wasn't for fans like me, these people would never be famous in the first place.

I have to admit, I didn't know what a Ponzi scheme was until last Sunday when I saw the Madoff interview on "60 Minutes." Which was well timed since I saw "Tower Heist" two days later. Obviously, there were a lot more laughs related to the movie than the Madoffs. In fact, there were so many laughs from the special advance screening crowd, I was left wondering if they ever get out of the house. I mean, it was amusing, but guffawing at a line like "I will blow your face CLEAN OFF your face!" seems a little extreme. I had no idea the return of Eddie Murphy could bring in such a crowd of crazed white folks.I mean, the woman in front of me was wearing a joutfit, complete with mom jeans and lace applique. Yikes.

As far as MY reaction to the movie is concerned, here's the dealio. It's funny. It's entertaining. It's NOT believable in any way. But we'd all like to think it could be, don't we? Some scum bag rips you off and when the cops can't nail him to the wall, you bust that wall down yourself. It's worth the money, as long as you value the price of cheap laughs at 10 bucks.

As for my Austin connections to the film, here goes... Tea Leoni was photographed in the crowd at Stubbs during a Billy Bob Thornton concert post David Duchovny split rumors. Michael Pena stars in "30 Minutes or Less" which Jesse Eisenburg promoted in Austin earlier this year. Nina Arianda stars in "Win Win" which premiered at SXSW this past year. And, my biggest stretch thus far, Ben Stiller has made numerous movies with two of our favorite Texans, Luke and Owen Wilson.

"Bones" creator Hart Hanson and star David Boreanaz spoke at a screening of an episode of the hit FOX show at The Austin Film Festival on Saturday. The episode they screened aired early last spring, involving the death of the grave digger, and was directed by DB. Both men were quite charming and entertaining. They also spoke about the realism of the show, the future of Bones and Booth and avoiding the "Moonlighting Curse."

I can't wait to see more of his hot bones on the season premiere next Thursday!

The combination of the Austin Film Festival, The Texas Book Festival and an infernal comedy is bringing quite a few famous faces to the ATX.

Alexis Bledel was at the AFF Film and Food Gala last night with writer/director Ryan Piers Williams(see previous post for pics).

Johnny Depp will be at the Paramount for a screening of "The Rum Diary" and "Edward Scissorhands" on Friday night. Screening begins at 7pm.

David Boreanaz will be at a "Bones" panel disussion at the convention center on Saturday at 5:30pm.

James Franco will be at the screening of "Sal" on Sunday. Film screening begins promptly at The Paramount at 12:00pm.

Thomas Jane will be at the screening of "I Melt With You" on Sunday. Screening is at 9:30pm at the Texas Spirit Theater.

DB Sweeney and Jon Gries will be at the screening of "Deep in the Heart" at 7:30pm on Sunday at The Rollins Theater.

Mike Judge will be at a screening of the new "Beavis and Butthead" on Sunday. Film screening at The Paramount at 7:00pm.

Mira Sorvino will be at the closing night film screening of "Union Square" on Thursday. Film screening begins promptly at The Paramount at 8:00pm.

Natalie Morales(from "Parks and Rec" not "The Today Show"), Martin Starr and Vanessa Branch will be at the screening of "6 Month Rule" on Friday night at *pm at the Texas Spirit Theater.

John Malkovich will be in town Monday and Tuesday appearing in "The Infernal Comedy" at the Bass Concert Hall.

Austin Film Fest Film and Food Gala

The AFF Film and Food Gala went down tonight at the Driskill with special guests Alexis Bledel and writer/director Ryan Piers Williams(who also happens to be married to America Ferrera). I snapped a pic with Alexis and chatted with the Houston native about her roles in "Sin City," "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and "Post-Grad." I mentioned that I had just read "Sisterhood Everlasting" and was not pleased with the storyline. She assured me that the girls would not be reprising their film roles for that story, saying that she didn't understand why author Ann Brashares had to go there.

Of the many many tasty treats on hand, my faves came from Eddie V's, Parkside(although I'm not a fan of the chef with the disappearing/reappearing wedding ring), the Frito Pie from Ranch 616 and the Red Velvet cupcake from Polka Dots.

Looking forward to opening films "Butter" and "Marcy May Martha Marlene" tomorrow night.

And, of course, Johnny Depp and James Franco this weekend!

Caught on Camera: Christian Bale at ACL

In case you live under a rock, Christian Bale was at ACL(shooting a Terrence Malick flick).

According to collider.com, the only thing we know for sure about the duo’s collaboration is that Bale is the star, and he’ll be joined by newcomer Haley Bennett. They went on to say that The Playlist points out that Malick had previously been working on a Jerry Lee Lewis-related project, so this film could be a new iteration of that. From the looks of things, it appears that Untitled Terrence Malick Project #2 may turn out to be a music-centric pic, though what the finished product will look like is anyone’s guess.

Side note: to satisfy your curiosity, Malick and Bale were backstage filming during the sets of Bright Eyes, Pretty Lights and Coldplay.

The 6th Annual Andy Roddick Foundation Charity Gala, which happened Wednesday night and featured a performance by Elton John, raised over one million dollars for children's organizations.

The sold out event also featured celeb guests Brooklyn Decker, Terrell Owens, Fred Couples and James Blake.

Bobby Bones of 96.7 Kiss FM opened the evening with a sort of roast containing jokes about the former US Open Champion.

The Austin Film Society, The Paramount Theatre and Matthew McConaughey will present a sneak peek of Richard Linklater‘s new film "Bernie" with star Jack Black in attendance on Sunday, September 18 at 4 PM at The Paramount.

A new t-shirt company is pocketing some change in Austin.

Launched by two UT students, obviously named Chuck and Jake, the brand is influenced by the unique vibrant style of our fair city. As their website states, in addition to the custom pocket, the brand is also about their blog which shares the same qualities as the pockets: varied, lighthearted and youthful.

To engage customers and fans, the guys hosted a t-shirt naming contest on Facebook(today is the last day to enter).

Already named.

The Friday Night WHITES/ or BRIGHTS - sporty style inspired by Texas high school football.

The Lady WORD Johnson - pocket features fabric laden with words.

The Hope QUOTES - same as above but with words of inspiration.

The Mike FUDGE - any brown shirt style.

The Dan Rather HOT - any tank top style.

The Andy FLAWEDick - factory seconds on clearance.

OK, OK...I'll admit that some are better than others.

After yesterday's shit storm, I'm sure Wendy Williams is doin' A-OK over yonder in Houston.

I think you know what I'm talking about. And if you don't, you are better off than the rest of us.

Anyway, after that morning madness at the Clear Channel studios, Wendy hosted a mini show out at the Lakeline Mall. She was the ultimate show-woman talking hot topics(tugging notes from her wig), taking audience questions and judging a local Idol competition.

Nothing gets Wendy down!

It's Fright Night in Austin!

Young Hollywood came to Austin in the form of three cast member from the "Fright Night" remake. Anton Yelchin, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and David Franco made the publicity rounds yesterday and then hosted a Q&A at the Alamo Drafthouse screening of the flick.

Batman is Back!

Adam West, the original Batman, is soaring back into the bat city.

BAM!

This is at least the third time West has been in the ATX for bat related events. He hosted a Q&A last spring at the Paramount and in November, the Mayor proclaimed it Batman and Robin day when the pair appeared at the Austin Comic Con convention last Fall. POW!

Austin Connects with "30 Minutes or Less"

Well, the initial Austin connection is quite obvious. Jesse Eisenberg was here three weeks ago promoting the film and serving up slices at Home Slice. He also shot scenes and premiered "Zombieland" here(which, like "30 Minutes" was directed by Ruben Fleischer).

The film co-stars Aziz Ansari who was here for SXSW earlier this year.

Nick Swardson came to the Paramount Theater in 2009 and Danny McBride was here to premiere "Your Highness" at the Alamo in April(along with Jen Aniston main squeeze Justin Theroux).

Unrelated to all the Austin connections, I thought the movie was totally entertaining(mainly due to Aziz). But to be totally honest with you, the thing I enjoyed the most was the fact the the film runs about 80 minutes. I am SO SICK of movies being two hours plus. Not because the story warrants it, but rather we are such a society of excess that directors, like the rest of us, don't know how to compromise and make cuts.

My Week in Review - August Week 2

After appendicitis took a slice out of my social life, I got my WILD STREAK on and as I swung back into things this week.

Highlight inspired by Christina Perri

I saw "The Help" on Monday. I also saw/see a promising future for that Emma Stone gal as well as some award nods for Viola Davis.

Didn't read the book(blasphemy!) but I did read into the bigger issues related to the subjects at hand and was quickly reminded why I left the Southeast.

On Tuesday, I attended the Austin Monthly bachelors issue party. It was more like a vajayjay convention. (insert cougar growl here).

Tip to talk to that bachelors without looking desperate: ask them to autograph their pictures.

Oh, Wait...

Worked the Austin Idol auditions on Wednesday.

The finals happen on Tuesday at the Wendy Williams event at Lakeline Mall.

Wednesday night I attended my first ACL taping EVER as well as continued my cougar country adventure. MAN, those desperate wannabe housewives love them some Jeff Bridges!

Thursday night I saw the fabulously campy "Fright Night." Excited to meet Anton Yelchin and Christopher Mintz-Plasse on Tuesday. Still trying to get info on how to win passes for that screening. Stay tuned!

Wendy Williams is coming to Austin and you can meet her!

Wendy's "Say it Like You Mean it" summer tour is rolling into the ATX and making a pit stop at the Lakeline Mall on August 16th.

The event starts a 1pm with Wendy shooting a mini-show type segment.
