Big Brother

Until this season, I had never before watched a single episode of Big Brother. After watching the bigotry going on inside that house, I’m kind of wishing I’d never started. If you haven’t yet seen the full cut of racial slurs, I advise popping on some headphones before clicking this link.

If you simply watched the CBS aired episode last night, you’d think Texas State student Aaryn Gries was the racism ringleader. But, after watching the other clips, I’m pretty sure the majority of these housemates are a bunch of bigots. And three of the competitors hail from Texas.

Gries is originally from San Angelo but currently lives in San Marcos where she attends TSU. She is also a model, though her current employer Zephyr Talent has dropped her amidst the controversy.

Aaryn, season 15 cast member of Big Brother, revealed prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone,” reads the statement posted on Zephyr Talent’s Facebook page. “We certainly find the statements made by Aaryn on the live Internet feed to be offensive. Any views or opinions expressed in personal commentary by Aaryn, either on any live feed from the House or during the broadcast, are hers alone and do not represent the views or opinions of Zephyr Talent. Upon much consideration, we have decided to release Aaryn from her contract with Zephyr Talent.

Fellow contestant Jeremy McGuire isn’t exactly a saint either. The Katy, Texas, based boat shop assistant was right there with her, making comments against Asians and gays. He’s also seen making slurs about himself in regards to his claimed American Indian heritage.

Only San Antonio resident Jessie Kowalski seems to be free of the discriminatory dialogue. The unemployed Beaumont, Texas, native describes herself as sexy, driven and smart. Let’s hope that she actually is.
