You can always count on the Austin Music Awards for a memorable night. From amazing performances to spectacular speeches and an all around collective love for Austin music, this year’s ceremony did not disappoint.
These are just a few of our favorite moments from the Austin Music Awards 2018.
Grammy winner Lucinda Williams gave a rocking performance after she honored Liz Lambert with the Margaret Moser Women in Music Award.
Joe Ely also performed with Charlie Sexton, and Alejandro Escovedo as well.
And Fiona Apple popped up in a performance with Charlie Sexton too! He’s one popular dude.
From staples on the Austin music scene like Carolyn Wonderland and Whiskey Shivers to newcomers like the U18 band Tiarra Girls, the winners could not have been more honored (and deserving, of course).
We can’t let this moment pass without telling you how much we love this guy from Night Drive’s hair.
And Bidi Bidi Banda’s acceptance speech wins our award for the best of the night. Apologies for the vertical video (I was shooting for insta stories).
Fiona Apple counts as a celebrity in our book (this may have something to do with a mid 90’s obsession).
Louis Black discussed Ethan Hawke’s new film Blaze, premiering at SXSW.
Robert Plant and Lyle Lovett both popped up in videos for the honorees. As did… is that DB Sweeney?
But the best sighting of the night was Kim Dickens from Fear The Walking Dead.
I spotted her early on in the night and posted this to Facebook.
Turns out I’m not crazy after all. She posted this to Instagram the following day.
Thanks to the Austin Chronicle for a fantastic night. And, thanks for all they do to keep the Austin music scene alive and well.
