Austin Band Midland Headed for Country Superstardom

Midland

The country trio known as Midland will make an appearance at the CMT Awards in Nashville tonight, but it’s Austin that the band calls home.

Their Wikipedia bio may state that the band was formed in Dripping Springs in 2016, however, lead singer Mark Wystrach proudly claimed Austin as the band’s base when they performed at Wade Bowen’s Bowen Music Fest in Waco on June 3.

The band’s rise to success has happened quite quickly. After their debut album dropped in 2017, their first single “Drinkin’ Problem” went to number 1 on the country radio charts.

They were then nominated for two Grammy Awards and won this year’s Academy of Country Music Award for New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year.

At the CMT Awards Midland is nominated for Group Video of the Year for their tune “Make A Little.”

While their studio album is definitely enjoyable, it pales in comparison to their live performance.

And you really need to see these guys in person to fully appreciate their style.

Their set at Bowen Music Fest was the first time we caught a live Midland Show.

It was also our first time to experience Wade Bowen’s Waco based charity event. If you’ve never been, we highly recommend.

More than 7,500 fans turned out to support the Bowen Family Foundation, which has raised more than $3 million for local charities.

This year’s performers also included REO Speedwagon (yep, they’re still around), Ray Wylie Hubbard. Jason Eady, Joe Nichols, Aaron Watson, Josh Abbott, Randy Rogers, Roger Creager, Cody Canada, William Clark Green, Radney Foster, Suzy Bogguss, Stoney LaRue and Kevin Fowler.
